About

BUJINKAN - ONE ART, MANY NAMES

Daishihan-01.png

Most martial arts go by one name. Ours goes by many - ninjutsu, taijutsu, ninpo... and plenty of others. No matter what you call it though, it's something you have to experience to understand.

At the Seattle Budokan, we train in this art, officially known as Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. Created by Masaaki Hatsumi, Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu is an amalgamation of nine ancient Japanese martial arts, from both samurai and ninja traditions.

That doesn't mean you're going to learn how to disappear in a cloud of smoke or ride a horse into battle. But you will learn how to apply the same principles these ancient warriors used to make your body and mind more flexible, and to protect yourself and your loved ones through stand up and ground fighting skills, with and without weapons.

You'll learn how to use the power of your entire body against an attacker's weak points. You'll learn how deceptive use of distancing and angling can overcome speed. You'll learn how the same body movement can be applied empty handed or with any weapon. And you'll have a good time doing it.

Come in and experience it when you're ready, and see why this cutting edge art is so hard to pin down!

THE DOJO

We mainly teach Ninpo Taijutsu or (commonly known as Ninjutsu). However, in the spirit of the traditional Budokan, or training hall, we are planning on hosting a number of different types of martial arts such as Karate, Aikido, Ju-jutsu. We are not a sparring center nor a mixed martial arts training center. Additionally, we plan on offering classes in Japanese culture such as customs, manners, cuisine and basic language skills.
